RIKKYO RECEPTION 2010
JASA’s first event this semester is the Rikkyo Reception! Every year JASA hosts the Rikkyo Reception to welcome students who are participating in the Rikkyo Exchange Program (organized by the Center for International Studies). These students are from Rikkyo Unversity, which is located in Ikebukuro, Tokyo, Japan, and will be staying at UMSL for approximately three weeks to study American business practices.
This is a chance for all JASA members to meet and interact with the students from Rikkyo, as well as to get together before the semester starts! For all of you who are taking Japanese, it is also a great opportunity for you to practice your skills before returning to class!
Other things that you’ll get out of this event include a whole lot of BBQ and FUN! We’ll be eating a lot, playing the Wii a lot, swimming a lot, playing sand volleyball a lot, and talking a lot – so remember to bring your stomach, your hands, your SWIMSUIT (most important!), your energy, and your vocal chords!

Also, if you want to bring a dessert or something like that to share with everyone, please feel free to do so! We appreciate all the help we can get, but please don’t feel burdened to bring something!

SHODO – SADO – ZEN: Japanese Aesthetic Sense through Zen
Are you interested in traditional Japanese culture and its grace? If so, you should register for this workshop. This is an approximately month-long program that is sponsored by the Center for International Studies. Students will learn about shodo (calligraphy), sado (tea ceremony), and zen as well as the connections between them all. Includes hands on experience!
Space is limited to 10 students and registration is required. Here’s some more info:

Location: FAB (Fine Arts Building) 127 on Tuesdays and Thursdays
